..i bet he would have been in that frozen position for long peering thru the painting!
this being a popular exhibit, it was increasingly becoming difficult to get some time alone with the painting for a photo. having said that, this man seemed like he was veering so close, it seemed like the next instant he would be sucked into the painting.

what I wouldnt give to see it...Its a beautiful beautiful piece!
Did you know Van Gogh was battling insanity at a mental asylum when he painted this...The madness manifests itself in the savage strokes in this masterpiece...hope you got a good look at it.
Yes I hear that he was in pretty bad shape during his final years. The strokes that you see here weer present in some other paintings of van Gogh also, made it seem as though it was his style of painting.
