The Prayer altar inside the Pantheon. The dome was so huge, it was pretty much impossible to do justice to the monument with my simple point-and-shoot camera. Note: The Pantheon is one of the largest churches in Rome, and was orignally built as a Pagan temple, built orignally in 27-25 BC. With teh fall of the Roman empire, the building fell into disuse and in the 7th century AD, the church took over and changed it into a prayer hall for christians. But it didnt stop there - they also went on to strip its walls and floors and ceilings of all the marble they could find, so they could use it to decorate the massive Basilica of Saint Peter's in Vatican. I found this rather disturbing  Posted by Picasa
